3:30 - turkey & ham roll ups, cucumber, banana
7:30 - turkey burger, mustard, brown rice, raw kale salad
8:30 - homemade granola
Probiotics:
I'm about to start the Paleo Diet which excludes all dairy, including the greek yogurt I eat every day. I've come to enjoy my daily yogurt, but I only eat it so religiously for the probiotics that are supposed to be so great for me. So, what are probiotics? And are there other naturally occurring sources (not supplements) to get probiotics from?
Probiotics are live microorganisms (in most cases bacteria) that are similar to beneficial microorganisms found in the human gut. They are also called "friendly bacteria" or "good bacteria." Eating this good bacteria is supposed to help balance the bacteria in your digestive tract, eliminating digestive related issues. Probiotics are available to consumers mainly in the form of supplements and foods. Foods containing probiotics include yogurt, fermented and unfermented milk, miso, tempeh, and some juice and soy beverages.
From my intial research, there are no naturally occurring sources of probiotics that are acceptable in the Paleo Diet. Yogurt and milk are excluded as dairy; miso is made from fermented rice, barley, and or soybeans; tempeh from soybeans; and the beverages seem an obvious no...
