Deadlift 225lbs - 9 reps

This was a brutal workout. The 800's are ruthless and by the last round of deadlifts my form was shot. Any more than 225lbs and I may not of made it through the prescribed weight. As usual, I need to focus on keeping my shoulders back and chest out while dead lifting.
Meals:
6:30 - omelette (4 egg whites, asparagus, tomatoes), apple
9:00 - 6 oz Applegate Farms sliced chicken breast, grapefruit
1:00 - 1 plain chicken breast, lg green salad (kale, spinach, mustard greens, evoo, lemon juice, pepper)
4:00 - 1 cup blueberries/raspberries, 4 oz walnuts/almonds, 2 hard boiled egg whites
8:00 - 1 plain chicken breast, lg green salad, 1 kiwi, 1 banana
Daily Paleo, Week 1: Carbohydrates - Asparagus
Today is my first day on the Paleo Diet. As I planned out a couple of days ago, I will be doing some light research on a different "Paleo friendly" food each night for four weeks. The first week will be dedicated to some tasty veggies. I'll kick it off with asparagus, a personal favorite... even if it does make my pee smell funny.
Asparagus is a nutrient dense food which is high in folic acid, and a good source of potassium, fiber, vitamin B6, vitamins A and C, thiamin, and are a great source of antioxidants. Asparagus has no fat, contains no cholesterol and is low in sodium. Like most vegetables you're best way to cook asparagus is to steam or broil them. Blanching/boiling them leaves many of the nutrients you want in the pot of water. There is also a lot of research suggesting that microwaving veggies kills the phytonutrients you want from them. There's a lot of conflicting views on microwaving so I just avoid it all together. Personally, I think asparagus taste great with eggs making it an easy way to slip a power packed vegetable into breakfast.
So, why does it make your pee smell? Asparagus contains a sulfur compound called mercaptan. It is also found in onions, garlic, rotten eggs, and the secretions of skunks. The unpleasant smell is produced when this substance is broken down in your digestive system. Interestingly, not all people possess the enzyme that breaks down mercaptan. These lucky peoples can eat all the asparagus they want without stinkin up the place.
